First of all, I used to race off-road, and I also own a sports marketing company, and I've been a driving coach for over two decades, and what I found is that women weren't competing.

When I was competing, and off-road, and I was racing, there were almost no women, and I mean almost no women.

There were races.

I remember one Baja 1000, there were over 500 teams and only two women driving, and that might be a field of a thousand plus drivers.

I had races where there'd be 150, 250, 300 drivers, and I'd be the only driver female driver.

Also, though, I was a driving coach, and so we would put together programs for Michelin and BFGoodrich and their management from all their distributors were invited to attend, and it was free for them to attend, and we had several years I think there were three years where not one single woman came to training, but when I would talk to their leadership, they would say, hey, you know, we offer it to them but they don't come.

But there are top salespeople, there are best managers and sometimes, you know, we have about 24 people per training.

We'd run two a week, and we might get one woman in training A big group of women would be three women out of 24 in training and the women would kind of stand in the back, listen really well, but not interject.

They take the coaching really well and then the second day, in all the exercises they would just do such a great job.

But it was a shame that they felt so uncomfortable or kind of you know, fish out of water, you know, on that first day and I really wanted a platform where women would say yes and it would attract the women who are a little bit more afraid to say.

They're more afraid to say no and miss out on the adventure than to say yes.

But to me it was very important that women get seat time.

It was very important to our mission that they were in stock manufacturer vehicles, the kind that we drive every day, not race cars, and that it would give them a real test.

I don't know if the listeners are familiar, but the Rebel Rally is a 10-day off-road navigation rally in stock vehicles.

It is you and your teammate and your third teammate, your car, for 10 days and eight days you are setting up a tent, taking down a tent, packing your car.

It's a beat down and it's a hard beat down, but at the finish they've been in every type of terrain, they've been in every temperature range this last year it was 14 degrees in the morning at the start of the rally and it was 114 almost at the finish, oh my gosh.

And so they've set their tents up five times, taken them down five times.

You know, it's just, it's exhausting, it's a beat down, but they've had eight start lines, eight finish lines and about 100 hours of competition.

Sometimes that'll take people 10 years to get that much seat time in competition and they get it in one rebel rally.

And so it was very important for me to create something that really wasn't about gender, just a world-class car rally that just so happened to be for women.

I've had some women who are from the industry and some really great women journalists who've said, gosh, you know I normally don't do women's events and I said, well, would you have done this rally if it were just an open event?

And one said, yeah, probably wouldn't have, and that was very telling to me.

So so today, you know that's really that mission, which is to give people really valuable seat time that they'll say, yes, they'll get that experience.

And then it kind of, in a way, it kind of shatters their own glass ceiling, you know, the one they've made for themselves, and the sky's the limit.

I rode bikes with hard, I skied with hard, snowboarded hard, went on like crazy adventures, but really there weren't a lot of women, you know, in the space or even at the races.

We've had people if you've never done it before, we've had people who've signed up back in the day, before it was sold out far in advance.

So how, when you're getting prepared, how do you feel yourself and your car ahead of the rally?

But you know, I really focus on sleep, I focus on really good nutrition and I train.

I'm only 105 pounds and 5'1" and so I felt like my body wasn't responding to training.

So I do sprint intervals of 100 meters and 200 meters while I'm on my run.

And then, when I'm exposed to a lot of dehydration in the desert and in extreme climates, I'm out on the trail a lot, I set the course, I do a lot of scouting and I also get IVs.

It's modified with aftermarket Total Chaos Fabrication suspension, so, for anybody who knows them, they just make the best suspension components and I run Pirelli tires, baja designs, lights, and it's an incredible car and its name is Seabiscuit, and the reason why it's named Seabiscuit is because Seabiscuit was a famous racehorse and it was kind of like a sleeper.
