What's New with Get in Her Lane? My Bold Career Move, a Re-launch of the Podcast, and What's to Come

After 25 years with a renowned OEM, I found myself at a crossroads, hitting that all-too-familiar career ceiling. So, I took a leap of faith and followed my heart in an area of the business I truly love. I joined Performance Brokerage Services, a family-owned dealership brokerage firm, stepping into a new role that aligns with my experience and interests in the automotive.  In this mini episode of Get In Her Lane, I share my career move and the why behind re-launching this podcast.

00:00:05.508 --> 00:00:07.551
Welcome back everyone to Get In Her Lane.

00:00:07.551 --> 00:00:11.382
I'm your host, Jamie, and it feels great to be back after a brief hiatus.

00:00:11.382 --> 00:00:15.461
I put together this mini episode to tell you where I've been and what I've been up to.

00:00:15.461 --> 00:00:16.503
So here it is.

00:00:16.984 --> 00:00:22.384
After dedicating 25 years to an esteemed OEM, I decided it was time for a career change.

00:00:22.384 --> 00:00:24.916
My career there was truly remarkable.

00:00:24.916 --> 00:00:31.842
I built incredible relationships with dealers, colleagues and friends passionate about the industry, and I learned so much.

00:00:31.842 --> 00:00:38.442
Nowadays, 25 years in one place is incredibly rare and, honestly, really safe.

00:00:38.442 --> 00:00:42.371
But, like many experiences that women face, I hit the ceiling.

00:00:42.371 --> 00:00:47.003
Unless I was going to move my family, I couldn't grow into any upward positions.

00:00:47.003 --> 00:00:52.927
Many of you know how this feels, whether we agree or disagree with how upward mobility in a company sometimes works.

00:00:52.927 --> 00:00:57.182
That is what I was faced with and, honestly, I'd been facing it for a while.

00:00:57.182 --> 00:01:00.350
So I felt this deep desire to take a risk and make a change.

00:01:00.350 --> 00:01:04.087
I reflect back on many of the leadership conferences I've attended.

00:01:04.087 --> 00:01:11.153
Each one had this message of hope take a risk, take control, be in charge of your career so you can win at life.

00:01:11.153 --> 00:01:15.350
And I could only be an example for others in this space if I practice what I've learned.

00:01:15.350 --> 00:01:18.349
So I knew I needed to just do it forge a new path.

00:01:18.349 --> 00:01:21.542
Fortunately, I had an amazing opportunity to explore.

00:01:21.542 --> 00:01:23.206
So where did I go?

00:01:23.206 --> 00:01:24.367
What am I doing now?

00:01:24.367 --> 00:01:31.433
Well, I am thrilled to announce that I've joined a dynamic dealership brokerage firm, Performance Brokerage Services.

00:01:31.433 --> 00:01:35.411
It's a family-owned company where we help dealers buy and sell their dealerships.

00:01:35.411 --> 00:01:45.388
While it was sort of a logical transition for me, based on my interests and specific work experience with dealers, it was still a bit scary to make the change and to take that leap of faith.

00:01:45.388 --> 00:01:49.174
But it's a new chapter filled with fresh challenges and a lot of possibilities.

00:01:49.174 --> 00:01:55.203
One of the aspects of this move that I'm most excited about is that I'm one of the few women in the dealership brokerage space.

00:01:55.203 --> 00:01:57.248
I look at that as a huge opportunity.

00:01:57.849 --> 00:01:59.643
Here's why I started the podcast in the first place.

00:01:59.643 --> 00:02:10.543
Women offer different perspectives, a different way of thinking and the way we go about doing business.

00:02:10.543 --> 00:02:12.570
They bring new ideas and innovation, and it is something we need to fuel in this incredible industry.

00:02:12.570 --> 00:02:20.233
If we all just acted the same or thought the same, this would only perpetuate the same habits and the same way of doing business, but instead we can be better and do better.

00:02:20.233 --> 00:02:22.805
That's why I decided to bring back Get In Her Lane.

00:02:22.805 --> 00:02:27.645
This message is just too important to not share and discuss on an ongoing basis.

00:02:27.645 --> 00:02:29.850
So what's in store going forward?

00:02:30.312 --> 00:02:37.447
This podcast is going to dive deep into the real challenges women face in the automotive industry, while highlighting the incredible opportunities it offers.

00:02:37.447 --> 00:02:42.103
Yes, it might seem like a dichotomy, but that's what makes this conversation so vital.

00:02:42.103 --> 00:02:45.669
We need to look at the challenges so we can create the solutions together.

00:02:45.669 --> 00:02:52.112
We need to talk about the great opportunities in the industry to build awareness and attract more women to these wonderful career opportunities.

00:02:52.112 --> 00:03:01.847
Get ready for inspiring stories from trailblazing women making waves in the automotive world, alongside progressive men dedicated to advancing gender diversity and leadership.

00:03:02.448 --> 00:03:10.251
In each episode, we amplify her perspective to drive positive change and work toward a future where a woman's voice carries the same weight as a man's.

00:03:10.251 --> 00:03:13.750
After all, women influence 83% of car buying decisions.

00:03:13.750 --> 00:03:15.235
That's huge.

00:03:15.235 --> 00:03:24.689
Women want to see gender balance when they shop and it's imperative we see more women in all positions, and specifically leadership positions in this industry, so we can drive meaningful change.

00:03:29.340 --> 00:03:30.485
And, to be clear, this podcast isn't just for women.

00:03:30.485 --> 00:03:36.146
It's for anyone committed to creating a more inclusive environment and staying ahead in a market where female consumers hold significant influence over car buying decisions.

00:03:36.146 --> 00:03:41.024
Maybe one day, women will make up 50% of the leadership roles in automotive.

00:03:41.024 --> 00:03:42.991
I think that's a goal we're shooting for.

00:03:42.991 --> 00:03:46.301
So here we are, back with a renewed sense of purpose.

00:03:46.301 --> 00:03:53.326
Together, let's shatter barriers, steer towards positive change and carve out our lanes in this ever-evolving industry.
